It’s time to vote for the leader

It’s time to vote for the leader; give me something to believe in so that I can plan my life around my dreaming, and what its all for’

‘Watch the Rain’ Title track from Watershed 'Watch the Rain’

We always talk about how fast time goes and ‘where has the year got to’ and never more so than this year! Another album, another round of elections and already its July…

The interesting thing I read recently is that its not the time that flies but rather time in relation to your age that causes us to think time is moving quicker; in other words, the longer you’re alive, the smaller a year becomes in relation to your entire life as a whole. For example, when you’re five, a year is 20% of your entire life.

When you’re 50, however, a year is only 2% of your life. For me, its cool to understand this concept because it makes me feel like I am in control and not just being thrown from year to year at a faster and faster pace! Check this cool interactive timeline out to see exactly what Im going on about:

For me it feels like just the other day I had told my boss, Tom Clark, then headmaster at Parktown Boys, that I had written my own songs and needed to go and test them out on the world; or the day I got the call to say that the Germans had fallen for ‘Indigo Girl’ and wanted the band to tour Europe.

I can remember the shared milestones like the release of Nelson Mandela, the death of Lady Di or the collapse of the twin towers like it was just last week, but already all these things are relegated to the annals of history and we are on the ever speeding treadmill of time, making new memories and creating new milestones that leave us shocked, elated, saddened or energised.

Technology has added to this frenetic pace and although we know we need to take time out, rarely do we actually do this.

On a band level, the last couple of months has seen the band add a few more milestones; another SAMA nomination and a sold out London show, to our history. It was great to see some new fans and perform with one of our longest standing members of the band James Sunney again.

The years biggest highlight and honour though, was to support Roxette on their final tour and last ever show. What a thrill to be able to watch these pros get up there and perform - the years literally fell away and they were as relevant as ever!

Thanks to the team that made this possible.

Over the years I have had the time to figure out what I like to do, who I like to spend time with and the things I would rather not waste time on. Resoundingly, one of my best things is to play music and perform to audiences.

This is the drive behind my days - it doesn’t need to be big shows, in fact some of the best shows the band has played have been to the smaller audiences. SO with that in mind, I list below the upcoming shows over the coming months.

We would all love to see as many of you there as can make the time! Come and make some memories, come share some moments and take time out with the band and I. We would be honoured!

Other great news is that we have drawn the 3 winners for the Swagga Breweries ‘win a concert’ competition!

So far we have had an amazing journey with Swagga and we really welcome our great partnership with them. Keep a look out on our social media pages for all our latest news for these shows, and a big congrats to all the winners!

Finally, on a sombre note; I had already written this blog and found out that a former Parktown Boy and a student of mine when I was a teacher there, passed away this week. The condolences have been pouring in from all who knew him and the resounding theme of these comments is that he was a person who had time for people, and who lived his life fully. These early deaths of such ‘stand out' people are a message to all of us, that time does not stand still for any of us, and when its up its up. In Gugu Zulus memory, and in the memory of all of those close to all of us, who have gone too soon, lets make the most of each moment. Live with purpose and make your time count. Much love to Gugu’s family and to all of you and yours.

Take Care,

CH
